I recently had my first real panic attack on weed a few weeks ago and I've been smoking pretty consistently for a year now. My best advice is just to not go overboard and make sure you're in a calm place both physically and mentally.
If you ever feel anxious, just remind yourself that you wanted to take weed and that it will wear off.
If you follow that, smoking is great. I smoke before bed and it just makes me mellow out, forget the bullshit of that day, I sleep well, and feel like I have a clean slate in the morning.
BUT everyone is different. If you're starting off, just take a hit every ten minutes until you start to feel the build up. Patience is key or else you'll get ridiculously high and that may feel uncomfortable, aka my first time.
