I landed a pretty cool scholarship to pay for another undergrad degree plus grad school, so I figure why not go for it since it won't put me in debt. I like nursing, so I'm not leaving it entirely, just performing in a different capacity. I hate watching people in these shitty situations where doctors or medicaid puts them through the ringer, and I don't have the power to help them. You'd be amazed at how negligent medical professionals can be when they know people aren't aware of or access to any real form of legal recourse.

I know the field is shitty right now. I'll only go if I get into a top 14 school. But because of my specific skill set, my accolades/honors (325k scholarship, prestigious fellowships/scholar status), and my connections, I feel pretty strong about my chances. If I hate it, I'll take another 2 years and become a nurse practitioner. I am keeping my license active so I'll always have nursing to fall back on.

It's a special transfer scholarship for community college graduates, focuses on grades, essays, service/vounteering/leadership, and first-generation, non-traditional students with interesting life experiences. You also have to have faculty recommenders that also write a series of essays. Big, long, annoying process, but it worked out okay in the end.

I swear I had this discussion with someone recently (maybe on reddit), but "nurse-attorneys" aren't a thing and I don't know why people think they are. The only transferable skills that a nurse could have are replaced by paralegals that know how to read medical records. Expert witnesses are used for anything else. Experts are doctors with lots of experience and occasionally nurses (with grad degrees and many years of experience). If someone told you otherwise then they lied.
If you are going to stick to that T14 or bust mentality then that's fine. Connections mean nothing if they aren't going to guarantee you a job with a decent salary. It's great that you got them, but for law school your undergrad scholarships also mean nothing.
I don't say this to be rude, but only because too many people make this mistake. It sounds like you want to do plaintiff's med mal work which is a shitty field with low starting pay (lower than what you're making now as a nurse.) I can guarantee it is NOT what you think it is. I wouldn't want you to throw away a large amount of time and forego many years of working to end up in a position worse than where you were. The opportunity cost is high.
My advice is to try and work part time at a law firm in the area you want to practice and make sure you definitely want to make this career change. And then think long and hard about it again.
