the only real argument against adblock i've ever seen is that it comes with the unintrusive ads checkbox checked by default

Consider uBlock Origin for selective filtering of more than just javascript. Not uBlock. It's a bit confusing, afaik someone basically stole the name uBlock so the original renamed itself to avoid confusion, the source of the original is https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock
