Hey /sci/,
Do you use linux at home or for work?
If so what distribution of linux do you use and why?

Arch linux, at home and at work, mostly because I'm a member of the AV club.

arch is for cs plebs, centos if ure serious

I use Arch for my personal computer and Debian for my server. If you're in the sciences, it's a good skill to have. If you're new to linux, I recommend installing Kubuntu in a virtualbox. I used to run Kubuntu on an old machine which is now dead (not because of Kubuntu) and it's pretty easy and slick. Since it's just Ubuntu with KDE, it's one of the easiest distributions to troubleshoot in my opinion.

Debian is useful for most applications, gentoo/funtoo is supposedly easier than Arch while still retaining the same hardware advantages. But i've never brothered to go down that road so whaddo I know

Gentoo is definitely not easier in my opinion.

Started out on debian stable with xfce, hopped to testing, then to unstable over time. Been using it for two years.

Seconding. There's a lot more work just installing the system and managing packages.
