Maybe try Octave if you're using ubuntu.

If you're a student, your uni may give it for free. If so, you can download it directly from the MATLAB site.

top tip: python is matlab: redpilled edition

FreeMat is a free environment for rapid engineering and scientific prototyping
and data processing. It is similar to commercial systems such as MATLAB from
Mathworks, and IDL from Research Systems, but is Open Source.
FreeMat is available under the GPL license.

No one answered my question in the other thread...
Does Julia have a CAS, and is it better than MATLABs?

pick one

If you mean a computer algebra system, then not natively, but I think there is an interface to sympy which is supposed to be pretty good.
>>

use GNU Octave. It's like matlab but doesn't have the awesome libraries

The guy uses ubuntu, freemat is included in the synaptic package manager.

Matlab a shit
Mathematica is GOAT CAS
>>
>>8173441
Just curious what are you working on that uses both numerical and symbolic computation?
>>
If you want a CAS check out Sage. It's basically a wrapper for python and a shell but it's pretty useful.

I'm the one who asked for the CAS.
I do dynamics work, so I have a long sympy script that generates differential equations, pops them into a file, numpy numerically integrates them, and then matplotlib plots them

Sympy actually has a really cool physics package so I don't have to do all the work.
