Is sociology a science?

No.
>>
>>8122149
Yes
>>
>>8122149
Maybe
>>
Who knows.
>>
I'm going with 'depends'
>>
Could be but most sociologists are either incapable or uninterested in doing proper scientific research
>>
of course. once its had time to really develop its methods, it'll be as scientific as can be. most social sciences are young as hell. people in the physical sciences need perspective.
>>
>Laws
Nope
>Tests
Not really
>Reproducible concepts
Not really
>Improved models
Nope, cyclical
>Proof
Not even
>Evidence
If you're obtuse enough

So no. It's not.
It's conjecture, anchoring and circular logic.
Social Studies are not Science yet.

Pretty much this. Right now being a sociologist would like being a chemist when all you know is that Mercury might be able to make gold. They need to have easy access to brain mapping of large groups to determine the actual processes that result in sociological effects.

So yeah right now it ain't really a science so much as yellow powder reacts with blue powder to make really cold orange powder.

Great moment from my real analysis prof this semester

>teacher says something or other about people
>student in the class says "That would make for an interesting sociology experiment."
>Prof laughs and says "that implies a sociologist could conduct an experiment

This prof was based and had like 3 rants about how all majors with "studies" in the name should no longer be degrees.

nice generalising, idiot
>>
>>8123457
>most
I didn't generalize to all you faggot
>>
>>8122759
This is spot on.
Calling something a science before it's a science is always wrong.
>>
>not understanding what science is: the thread

I fear for his job security tho. Totally unprofessional desu

Yes but we start to cross into the realm of where trying to be as strict as say chemistry starts becoming a bitch because humans are a fucking paradox.
