When the United States was first settled, they thought lobsters were giant sea insects amd wouldn't touch them. Native Americans showed them you can use the for fertilizer, but they still didn't like to touch them.

It wasn't until the french showed up during the revolution that people started eating them.

One writing from the 1700's talks about them being so large they hang from a man's waist to the sand (or something like that) and given lobsters have next to no natural predators, keep growing almost thier whole life, it's very believable

Now I'm lucky to get a 2lb one at the store :(
