Solar Powered, m8
>>8076595
It is powered by the MIRACLE OF RADIATION
Not a single repeated answer to confirm in here. So how is it powered then?
>>8078025
Radioisotope thermal generator. Its a decaying chunk of plutonium that releases heat which is converted to electricity with thermocouples

who took this picture?
>>8079067
Some volunteer from Nevada. What, you actually thought the pictures were real?
>>8079067
>doesn't know NASA has selfie sticks
The missing mechanical arm cut out of the picture at top of the rover.
>>8079067
Maybe its a pic of the clone on jpl
>>8079067
Its a composite, you can see the selfie stick arm where it gets cut off

whys it so dusty? why isnt their sky clear like ours?
>>8079752
what does a clear sky mean? Our sky is blue, not clear. That's just how the Martian sky looks, at night you can see all the stars easy
>>8079752
Mars is covered in extremely fine dust, has 1/3 earth gravity, and is windy
>engineers robot to roam on a sand planet
>doesn't include a brush to clean its solar panels
>robot runs out of photon fuel
>>8079766
Has this happened before?
>>8079766
The wind is enough to blow the dust off.

Spirit no longer runs due to not enough power.
Opportunity amazingly is still running after 12 years.
These twin robots were only suppose to last about 3 months

The whole place is sand, and that means oil! I bet they don't even know what they've got.

A curious mix of sadness and optimism
It runs on an RTG.
The RTGs on the Voyagers are still putting out enough juice to have them functioning and talking to earth. So Curiosity will still be doing SCIENCE!, when Musk shows up on Mars.
