So I'm finishing my third year in bioengineering with a minor in chemistry and I'm thinking about continuing in Nanobiotechnology. I've always made my study choices regarding my general interests, not with a specific job in mind.
Now I'm curious about where I could land, what kind of jobs can i expect to apply for or land with a degree in bioengineering specialised in nanobiotech?

Big pharma, insilico drug design, screening, docking.

You're a gambling man then? That field basically does not exist in industry yet. Unless it catches on commercially soon you can expect to do nothing in nanobiotech

i guess i am attracted bu the "futuristic" aspect of nanobiotech... regardless, this specialisation has been available for over 10y in my university so surely there's a certain job niche for this field

Shitposting aside, I think you should focus on bioengineering if you are pursuing a career, but have knowledge in nanotechnology as applied to bioeng. 10 years is young. There's been talk of using nanotubes as applied in medicine and nanomaterials for filtration, but I'm not aware of any other biological applications

can you research life extension with this degree? sorry for asking this in your thread but I need some help OP, my university has two similar degrees, I'll try to write an accurate name but english isn't my first language, one is called engineering in biotechnology and the other one is called genomic biotechnology but it doesn't have engineering in its name, are any of this careers useful for that research?

for me life extension should definitely go through a modification of the genetic code as to alter cell ageing, therefore if you want to research this particular topic, i guess you should focus more on genomic biotechs

bit off topic, when americans say "with a minor in chemistry" what exactly does that entail

you took some chemistry courses? are you a bioengineer AND a chemist?

what will your title say "bsc in bioengineering/chemistry"?

academic nomenclature in the us is as puzzling as the subjects themselves

It means you took classes not required in your major, but they are still extras

For example, if i had a BS in Bioengineering and a Minor in Chemistry, it means I took a couple more of chemistry classes than what the Bioengineering major requires me to do (ex. analytical chem, physical chem, etc.) so although I don't have a BS in chemistry, I still have more knowledge of chemistry than people with only a BS in Bioengineering

interesting, many thanks, anon

note that he still needs to fulfill requirements for a minor. just taking a couple classes doesnt qualify you, and it does not show up on your degree. its a novelty and should be done purely for enjoyment and props a resume a bit.
>>
OP here, i am actually not an american, where i study (belgium) you have to choose an option in the 3rd year of bioengineering, i chose chemistry, not actually extra classes... that's what i meant by "minor" bc i didn't actually know how to say it
