If aliens were in the presence of two humans conversing with one another they would or would not be able to detect highly non-linear, prismatically chaotic variations in air pressure depending on their sensory organs.
But this is mostly irrelevant, as their universal pattern detectors would have picked up on it and signaled a high likelihood of intelligent life, at which point they would collect a sample human and feed it into their reverse engineering machine in order to manufacture half-human half-alien clone babies to act as go-betweens for our civilizations.

I don't buy that argument. Why would an alien civilization want to create a new race? Why wouldn't it be capable of doing so without piggy-backing off of an existing race? Would that really be easier, considering they'd have to deal with resistance from the existing race?

Like all neurologically advanced beings the hybrids are highly psychic. The latest 'models' (www.google.com/search?q=%22hubrids%22) can easily pose as humans. There will not be much resistance because there is no awareness that they can control your mind without you noticing it. It's a form of telepathic hypnosis.
The most effective takeover is the one the targeted civilization doesn't recognize as such. This isn't Hollywood, this is advanced intelligence and time is not an issue. The goal is control.
There is no need to 'buy' anything. It is enough to be aware of the possibility.
