Howdy, /sci/, what's your favorite insect defense mechanism or just oddball insect behavior? I'll start:

The motherfucking bombardier beetle, literally roasts its enemies alive. It ejects a mixture of two chemicals from its abdomen which, on contact, vaporize and rapidly heat up while traveling towards its targets, literally cooking them alive.

I should just kill myself. Anyways, time to go get another bug.

Asian bees are pretty neat. I know i'm terrified of those giant fucking hornets, but their ability to swarm and cook them alive is fascinating.

>literally burning diarrhea
Why are insects so cool?
>>8015870
Because they're largely r-strategists so you can see way more variety, right?
>>8015870
Nothing so special about that. Just give me a vindaloo.
Alright you fucks I'll post another one
this is my first time to come to /sci/, am I doing it right?
Camponotus saundersi, the Malaysian exploding ant, is another example of chemical compounds harnessed by nature to for defense. When a worker is attacked, it can burst either or both of the two massive glands that run down the sides of its body, splattering any nearby life forms with a corrosive, sticky, toxic substance that can make them easy prey for additional waves of ants to take down.

>Camponotus saundersi
i cant find any video of exploding ants. sounds like bullshit
>>8015887
>r-strategists
s-stefan ? is that you?
>>8015989
No, i've only taken undergrad biology. Who's this stefan?
Australian bullant species are all incredibly hostile and pack a vicious sting. I see them all the time and they look right at you and will chase you. Their sting is incredibly painful only eclipsed by bullet ants and tarantula wasps. They exist all over the continent.
Absolutely terrifying creatures.

Apparently the idea comes from a manga about superhuman cockroaches.
