Dreams. What are they?
a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person's mind during sleep, fuckface.
a place where you're not a dumbfuck
Dreams are the place your brain goes to so it can stay sane. We all turn a blind eye to how bad our lives truly suck...to how unhappy we are...how bad we get fucked everyday
But a part of your brain is aware of it all. So it dreams while you sleep to regain it's sanity

I guess it's the brain generating activity without real external stimulus.

Memory defragmentation.
As far as I know, no one actually knows why we dream. It's brain activity and it's reason is unknown.
We also don't know why we sleep, we know that if we don't sleep, we die, and that's it (Rat experiments shows that if you don't allow them to sleep, they get cold and die after a few days)
Also if you pay attention to details, dream are very realistic, lightning, shadows, face details etc, it's amazing our brain can simulate reality so well.

Just going on the content of my own dreams, my guess would be it's the brain processing shit - the day's events, cross referencing with other data, stuff one should be wary of, yadda yadda. Of course i could be just engaging in confirmation bias. Fuck knows.

It's your brain running disk defrag.

>if we don't sleep, we die
>rats get cold and die
Both false.
>>8005425
Your brain needs time to purge useless information
this happens when you sleep, when you dream
you only retain the important stuff, and the useless minutia of daily life gets lost

Maybe because our brains create it?

Did sleep deprivation training. Eventually peeps just start passing out.
Some dreams have meanings and are a reflex of your psychological state. Some are very obvious, such as anxiety and dreaming of moving or punching very slow, or of a gun not firing at all, or being confident and dreaming of jumping high or long distances.

This you call evidence? Idiot.

This is why people study neuroscience
Actual non-vague question:
Is it true that a function of dreaming is to recollect all the information you've perceived and compartmentalize it more efficiently?
As in, analogous to debugging code.
Idk, I remember my high school psych class talking about this, but I haven't looked into psychology much since then.

Dreams are projections of stuff that's in your brain processed by some other stuff in your brain.
This thread is full of so much cancer. Dreams are basically hallucinations while sleeping; experiencing senses when very little sensory input is present. If you're interested in this, learn to lucid dream and fuck around a bit in your dreams. It's not too hard to figure out.
>>8008692
Exept that they are induced and realized completely involuntarily (your will is suspended as you fall asleep) and are often, even though mostly being more or less surreal, completely immersive and realistic to the point of the dreamer not being aware that he's dreaming.

Interesting, but invest in a fountain pen and opt to skip a space here or there...
