>>
>>7996977
nah dude, I'm not afraid of dying, but at the same time I'm an optimist. Live while you can, senpai. The way I see it, you're not aware when you're dead, so there's no point about worrying about the void. You just gotta accept the fact that you'll stop being one day, doesn't mean you can't have fun while existing.
>>
Just get cryonically frozen.
>>
>>7996985

Yes it does. How am I supposed to enjoy life knowing it's all in vain anyway? I'm a purpose driven man. I can't just live enjoying myself. I want to live exploring the depths of the universe. I want to know everything to grant me a vision of Nature's forces that bind the world, all its seeds and sources and innermost lifeā€”all this I shall see, and stop peddling in words that mean nothing to me.
>>
>>7996716
Why is this the one and only board that is obsessed with immortality? never once seen it mentioned on any other board. My explanation is that kids who think they are smarter than everyone else extend that into thinking they will be able to work out how to live forever.
>>
>>7997009
You could argue everything's in vain. The universe will eventually die of a heat death, even the artifacts we have flying through space (like voyager) will eventually lose electrons one by one until it slowly disintegrates. But all of this stuff is large scale things. All you have to do is focus on right now, and focus on being happy. Because simply, a happy life, is a good life.
>>
>>7996727
>only people in high school are afraid of dying
>>
>>7997018

Sounds like the philosophy of those obscure new age sects to me.

I refuse to believe that the end of our universe is unavidable. I'm sure we can reverse the process one day and create a Universe in our image.
And it makes me sad that I won't be around for that day
>>
>>7997009
So get cryonically frozen idiot

http://waitbutwhy.com/2016/03/cryonics.html
>>
>>7997024
If you believe that, then work towards laying the foundation. Be the change you wanna be in the world. I know it's some cheesy sounding quote, but if you help lay the foundations, You might help just a little.
>>
>>7997013

The better question is why is everyone else NOT obsessed with immortality? How much of a cuck do you have to be to just accept that one day you'll get cucked by Death and can't do anything about it?
>>
>>7997026

How do I make sure someone will thawn me?
First I need to make an impact on the world big enough to make sure that I'm notorious throughout history. Then I'll freeze myself. It's the only way
>>
>>7997033
First of all, you are getting frozen. You are going through a process of vitrification.

I know what cryonics is. What I'm saying is that there is no guarantuee that peope in the future will care enough about you to revive you. Who would revive average Joe who died of Cholera in 1777 when you could revive fucking Mozart, y'know what I mean?
>>
I don't know what's worse, dying one day or having to live forever. Can you imagine how you'll feel after 5 billion years of being alive ?
I think the best thing would be to live forever but to be able to wipe your memories every 200 years or so, and maybe keep records in a database so you can see who you used to be and don't lost everything.
>>
>>7997030
Because it's the reality. Just because you read a few biology books doesn't mean you can live forever. /sci/'s obsession with immortality is indicative of it's inflated ego. You are just like everyone else, you are not special, you will die in 50-60 years just like everyone else. hell i can even comfortably predict how you will go, likely either heart failure or cancer. Just like everyone else. So if I were you I'd instead research painkillers because I heard cancer is real painful.

>I'm very scared of dying anons
at least you dont have to be scared of being alone, though you might not realize it. I believe all people assume they are going to live forever so they technically arent scared. if everyone really comprehended that 60-80 years is a blink of the eye in time, which so far has been running for 13.8 billions years, everyone would be terrified right along side with you.

either that or realize you barely existed anyway and nothing was lost.

also OP, i don't think there is any way to deal with the consequences of death. Everybody who handles it does it by either ignoring it and pretending like death is an impossibility in the deeper levels of their brain, doesn't understand it, or is a druggie/alcoholic
>>

>>7996779

>>>/b/678865236
>>
>>7996716
well OP while immortality would be impossible since just about all lifeforms eventually ages (even bacteria that reproduce colonially), i think extending lifespan is for sure within the realm of possibility ... and in fact we already live nearly twice the lifespan we lived in the 1900s thanks to healthcare and agriculture improvements. we might be able to live longer if we can make a better DNA repair system to fix mutations we accumulate within our lifespan. but then again a host of other things besides mutation accumulation can kill us like heart disease and accumulation of plaque in our arteries for example. also some traits are selected for because they help us when we are young but hurt us when we are old and these persist since natural selection weakens with age. its a complex issue.

This. The "You" that exists will live again as long as earth can sustain life. Leaves die each season and come back when it's spring. Flowers bloom, everything is reborn. Death isn't the end, but it's change. Life is a cycle, but your life will end and that "You" will not exist in that life again. Is this reincarnation? Guess you could say so. Just my insight, but my other guess is that you'll die and go to heaven where you'll shitpost on the daily.

>my other guess is that you'll die and go to heaven where you'll shitpost on the daily.
This just made me cry tears of joy, anon. Thank you.
>>
>>7996716
My guess is probably 7-8 generations away from extending life to something like 500 years but we'll run into other issues we haven't forseen

You could, for example, tackle the telomerase problem, maybe overexpress p53, cut out shit genes with CRISPR-like system and put in some better ones, basically become the perfect specimen and that would take you out about 500 years or so but then you start running into shit we can't comprehend like the effects of 500 years of LTP on the brain when it goes senile at 100, or the long-term effects of ionizing radiation, or replacing cells and dna but not the corresponding epigenetic profiles

I hate to break it to you OP, but we're no where close to immortality.

Death is bullshit anyway. Our minds are information fields. A body means next to nothing; it's just an antenna.

Nothing at all can exist without first being observed into existence; that's how quantum fluctuations cause reality itself. Those fluxes also created minds, which, according to Orch OR experiments can react to quantum vibrations.

Microtubules are nothing but little antennae that pick up on a certain fluctuation field.

This is also likely why twins know what's going on with each other, because they were formed so close, they pick up on fields that are barely out of phase.

It doesn't matter if you die, because you'll just float around as an amorphous blob of thought until you find another antenna.
If you want to not even have to worry about that, get real close to some kind of inanimate object. Or, do some research into Applied Quantum Observation. If you don't solve it, I will, so I don't really care if you do or not. But since you're supposedly 63, you likely have finished actual work or are close. Go start researching how to create programmatic collapse states by measuring the effects of individual collapse states based on conscious intent.
That'll get you "telekinesis", or AQO.
Otherwise, just plan to stick around about 20 more years and wait for me.

Alternative: Check out BioViva. They have telomerase gene therapy that actually reverses aging. Liz Parrish is who you needa see.

Dying is the price for living.

You didn't exist before you were born, you won't exist after you die. Therefore enjoy life, it's practically only borrowed.

>>7999727
apart from the first 2, maybe 3, the others are way too sci-fi and futuristic, I doubt some of them might even be possible, like 6. Also, cyborgisation doesn't account for neurodegenerative diseases and the problems with replacing the organic parts of the body. Thanks for the dump though.

Yeah what this guy said. Instead of actually facing your issue, you can just live in lala land and pretend that after your brain decomposes it's mental states and false perceptions are transfered eternally to a pleasant or torturous magical plane depending on that brain's behavior.

Oh but you gotta act like it's a fact despite a complete lack of support. When people ask you if you're mentally unstable, just tell them you have faith and that it's something you just gotta experience.

I respect what most people have sought out for in life, I'm mainly just talking about the new young generation who are doing jackshit and are freelancing off their parents while getting rich from lip syncing videos, I respect anyone who has a goal in life, and I hope that they achieve that goal, I'm just saying that in the modern days you need more than hard work to reach these goals, you also need luck, which is why I feel my life is rather pointless as I'll never really achieve my goals.
>>
>>7999852
I actually had the opportunity to chat with a nobel laureate last week, I guess you could consider him one of those people that combined hard work and luck

he knew it was lucky too

he also is still working in science, trying to get funding, trying to make people believe in his latest work

so how you judge the success of others (not just the 'sheep', but also the highly successful) is not how they perceive it intuitively

in other words, none of us can truly succeed by your logic, you'll never 'make' it there. you might set goals now, but those goals will always be changing

I realise I sound like a dick categorizing people so I apologise, I believe that hard work deserves what it gives you even if luck is also a large factor, if you worked for what you want then you deserve it.
I plan to live my life to the best of my abilities and try to achieve the best I can, and hopefully I will be happy with my life, and I hope other anons live their life to the best of their ability too, however I'm not a very positive person and I often look at downsides before anything else

But as I was originally saying, I'm simply scared to die while my life has not been what I want it to be. And by my logic I believe it's still possible to achieve your goals, as I believe in hard work, but I also see that you need at least some luck.

are you worried that you'll have a slow, inevitable death (by death I mean process of dying, of course we all die) where you'll mull these thoughts over and drive yourself insane? the amazing thing is that as you age your brain changes, so that you find different (some would say deeper) meanings to life. And during the dying process your brain will release chemicals that will cause your state of mind to drastically change so these thoughts of 'regret' will be blunted

I knew about how you are calmed upon death but I never knew your brains actual way of thinking changes as you get older.
Well I guess you learn something new every day.

he's probably the most famous proponent of ayahuasca and some of the other psychs

he has a number of really good podcast episodes with spiritual healers talking about the various compounds they use and in what scenarios they employ them
