If you don't get what these words mean, and think they're only "buzzwords" then you're just a fucking dumb undergrad.

Chemistry
People use elegant a lot, usually only when something is actually pretty elegant and very well done

I think it triggered my prof more though.

All of those are good words though.
Subtle translates to "hard to explain."
Slick means "cool."
Elegant means "pretty."
And intuition is translates to "prejudice."

I had a professor who had the nerve to say that strategic management is basically the same as military strategy and just as important.

I do what they mean. If you think that I don't know the definition of "elegant" or how its applied in a mathematical context, then you are the one who doesn't know what I mean. Let me explain.

If at this point in your life you're not totally exhausted by these buzzwords then either 1) you haven't spent years around ignorant and inarticulate undergrad pop-math fanboys who use these buzzwords--and, yes, they are buzzwords, the word "elegant" for example can be at any time invoked as a one-word explanation of why you like a certain result in mathematics--as a linguistic crutch a few months into their education after they learn that it's fashionable to attach some sort of VISUAL aesthetic to fucking mathematics (and perhaps you are one of those fanboys), or 2) you are infinitely more patient than I, and a much, much better person.

Do you people really not understand what these words mean?
>>
>>7990234
>>7991794
Come on, are you guys serious? There are really no words or terms that you find your professors and classmates abusing? What are your fields? I find it very obnoxious how it seems like people in mathematics all draw from the same extraordinarily limited pool of descriptions. It seems like the only things they read and expose themselves to are other mathematical papers which tiredly repeat these same phrases, which they then go on to use in their papers, which others then go on to use... and the cycle perpetuates indefinitely until there are only four ways express everything in existence. It's lazy and helps no one in my opinion. The fact that you think me being fed up with my field's practices evidences inexperience is retarded as well
>>
>>7991930
It's like Newspeak except they only give us about 6 adjectives.

Most (CS/CE/stats/math) professors never use those I find. Maybe IT/business professors, who aren't really sure how a support vector machine works, like the term Big Data but I seldom hear it.

Of course you are only doing approximations, since you can make anything as complex as you want, and problems become unsolvable long before that.

Agree with that

Agree on that. Intuition is strictly personal. All of calCOOLus is intuition, if you think about it for a very long time.

Had a total redneck for a digital circuit design course. After a couple of weeks I started keeping a tally of how many times he said "in this case" in a lecture. The number was much higher than my grade and iq put together on average.

My professor doesn't really use words, he just sort of stops in the middle of a lecture to scream right into my face. What do I do, /sci/?
>>
>>7997745
I have one of those profs. He gets so excited during lecture he loses control and yells everything really really loud. Sit in the back I guess. If that's not enough wear a cap with ear protection underneath.
