It's not as complicated as you think it is. Watch a khan academy video or something.

>can't do basic algebra
>am i too dumb for math
No, you lack practice.

THIS

Evaluating the original equation, I get X = 6Y-24
There are an infinite number of correct answers.
Is this a troll? If so, it's more confusing than anything.

You're supposed to find where they intersect

It's a single function. Notice there is an x on one side and a y on the other. It's not a system of equations.

The only right answer

You have an equation with two variables.
At best, you can develop a relationship between the two variables. As in "when one changes, the other changes. Here is the rule that shows how it changes."

But there is no single answer, because a relationship represents an infinity of answers.

You should know this by your third semester.

Linear diophantine equations either have 0 or infinite solutions.
If [math]\text{ax}+\text{by}=c[/math], [math]a,b,c\in \mathbb{Z}[/math], and [math]\frac{c}{\gcd (a,b)}\in \mathbb{Z}[/math], you can find [math]x=x_0[/math] and [math]y=y_0[/math] solutions through the Euclidean algorithm, and all other real solutions can then be given as [math]x=x_0+\frac{b}{\gcd (a,b)}*t[/math] and [math]y=y_0-\frac{a}{\gcd (a,b)}*t[/math] where [math]t\in \mathbb{R}[/math]
