>be me
>went to uni for Chemistry 10 years ago at 18
>made A's in Gen Chen 1+2 and Gen Bio 1+2, never studied, was always one of those kids who heard something once and grasped it
>dropped out after freshman year
>decided to go back last year
>now study my ass off and struggle to make B's, dropped all classes this semester cause the highest grade I could get was a C
>even after studying forget half of it when I go into the exam this semester
>can't retain information like I used to, couldn't tell you how to do anything I learned last semester
What is wrong with me? Could I have a degenerative brain disease? Does it get harder to learn when you get older? I did some heavy drinking and some molly and 2C-x drugs during a 3-4 year clubbing phase in my years off, could I have damaged my brain?
I just ordered some Noopept to see if that will help.

It's hard to do good in memorization classes once you get past 25

>could I have damaged my brain?
Yeah, drugs can have that effect. They can also help reverse the same effects, but nobody really has the means to study psychedelic rehabilitation. I'd advise you not to experiment on your own, but it probably doesn't make much of a difference now anyway.

I'm sure that when you were younger you were more active physically and mentally, after you gained information you moved on to another idea/topic to look into or understand. Do you try to learn something new or expose yourself as much as you used?
it's well known that it's easier to learn when you're younger and heavy drinkers tend to damage brains, forgot how but look it up.
Drugs might have done some damage, but probably not as much as you think. Yeah, it's a lot easier to learn when you're a kid. Your brain is more used to encountering new concepts then. Plus, as a smart kid, you've got every adult in your life telling you you're brilliant and destined for great things, and that continous ego trip makes it easier to succeed.
All nerds have a mini midlife crisis in their twenties, when they lose that. You'll get used to it.

I went back at 23, I know the feeling. I used to blow through test, now they're insanely stressful and I'll blank on things I know.
>>7979583
>dropped all classes this semester cause the highest grade I could get was a C
so you passed, and you still dropped classes?

Shit. This explains why I'm struggling as a junior in college all of a sudden. Extreme drinking for 2 years and I learned better when I was younger.

Current student, former youth football player on pretty high level, here are some tips:
It's all about your routine -> Sleep, exercise, food.
If you eat a big meal at around 12 then you should wait aprox 4 hours before studying, 1 hour before you start consume some simple carbohydrates, a banana or something like that.
You'll be insanely more efficient at studying withing a 2-3 hour frame.
Also do some exercise a few times a week and make sure your sleep cycle is perfect.
PS: Sometimes focusing and learning is like being in shape. When you were younger you'd been in school all your life and thus your brain was used to learning that way.
Now that you've been away from it for 10 years you need to build it up again. After a few weeks of the above and doing those 2-3 hour study sessions outside of class everyday you should build up that mental shape again.

>Do I have a degenerative brain disease?
The answer is obvious.

Maybe you just had easy grading teachers when you were 18 and now had hard grading teachers.

I went back at 24 and have experienced the complete opposite. Doing 10x times better. I'm more organised and motivated. Every day is like Christmas eve for me.

Only if they're 34Cs and above.

>Does it get harder to learn when you get older?
Very much so.
>>7979583
Maybe your uni got much harder and as as result the grading is more strict not to mention the topics aren't as fresh in your mind as the first time you took it.
