I've basically forgotten everything from school except basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and some division.

You really don't figure those fractions things by hand into decimals.
Usually people tend to simplify it into a smaller fraction.
For 68/23 you'd just leave it, or use a calculator to find the decimals.
