How effective are aluminum foil hats really?
Not trying to meme here. From a scientific point of view, can aluminum foil really protect your brain from radiation? From which kind of radiation and how much foil would I need? What are more effective alternatives?
Thin sheet of aluminium foil will reflect radio waves but not radiation. Only multiple coated leads can stop hazardous radiation.

I can guarantee that a whole-body conductive suit will in fact protect you from (almost) all RF radiation.
As far as the hat goes, it really depends. Lots of weird interference happens that's unpredictable in real world situations. A plat plane vertical to the source and away from your body is a better bed.
If your hat is parabolic and the source is parallel to it's axis, you'll actually fry your brain.

Wouldn't plain damping of the waves play an important factor as well? Given aluminium is a pretty good conductor.
Alpha and beta waves will be blocked, not higher frequency radiation that is used to read your thoughts. You need to line it with magnesium to stop that.
