what do you mean "designing audio" anyway? composing music? learn to compose. mixing? learn to mix. that's all you need. if you don't know music at all, start by learning to play piano and read sheet music, then to compose.

I was looking at this.
Learn what the Fourier transform is about, at least. It's the most important part of DSP engineering (if that's what you're trying to do) and it'll let you do things like bandpass filters, phasing and flanging effects.
