Is there a way to calculate the escape velocity of a black hole? Obviously it has to be greater than or equal to the speed of light but does the formula (2GM/r)^.5 apply to black holes If so what is the radius of a black hole? is it the Schwarzschild radius (I think this is just the radius of the event horizon) or is it simply 0 seeing how their volume is 0.

Yes, there are 2 corrections that perfectly cancel out giving the classical result.

So what exactly would the radius of a black hole be? As far as I understand the Schwarzschild radius is simply the radius at which Vese>c but not actually part of the black hole
>>
Using Planck length for r & ~5SolarMasses I got Vese=10^31meters/second

Since you can't observe what's beyond the event horizon, it's meaningless to talk about anything within the Schwarzschild radius. It's a region of space where our current understanding of physics breaks down.

this made me kek, but whats wrong with the fedora, and reddit is fine

we can't observe a lot of things that does not mean they are meaningless to discuss.

The thing is, we don't know what lies inside. General relativity tells it should all collapse into a point (singularity) and God only knows what is going on there.
>>
>>7931244
I believe the current theory is a singularity with 0 volume thus infinite density.

Why are my only two options an economically illiterate socialist and a proto-fascist con man?

Literally everyone in my engineering department supports trump because he's the only person who actually even talks about h1b abuse.
This shit overwhelming affects STEM.

There is no way that's true.

If that was the case, light would escape, wouldn't it, genius?

By definition it's c.
When people say "black hole", they mean the region of spacetime enclosed in the event horizon (including the horizon itself).
Another way to write your formula is [math]v_{escape} = c \sqrt{\frac{R_S}{R}}[/math], where R_S is the Schwarzchild radius of the black hole, and R is your distance from the singularity. This is equal to c when your distance from the centre is equal to the radius of the black hole, and goes to infinity as you approach the singularity at the centre.
The R in your formula is the same as the R in mine - it's the distance you are away from the singularity.

The escape velocity/energy of a black hole inside the event horizon = infinite energy

They're the only ones worth discussing. All the others are Corporate %Partyname% Version 2016.
