If people are pushed to do effort like in a war or shit, you will see how they can control themselves really well.

The article is misleading.
The robust result is that willpower is depleted. The failed results seem to center on the fact that the depletion cannot be staved off and willpower cannot be trained.
The "replication crisis" doesn't apply to the result of willpower depletion because it has been successfully repeated.

My theory: ego depletion is dependent on the culture and common held values, Americans are generally consumerised retards, elsewhere in the world people have a good work ethic, ego depletion occurs in people who expect compensation from a task, normal people are able to focus on the task and find intrinsic satisfaction from its conpletion,
TL:DR consumerised populations will exhibit ego depletion because they expect a reward rather than finding pleasure from doing a good job
