How would the job market for physicists be in the next 6 years?
>mfw taking Physics degree, >mfw engineers around me can more easily get jobs
>mfw I might end up being a finance slave
Would I be able to work in the industry just as any engineer can, albeit in a different way? Please tell me everything's gonna be ok, I want to continue Physics, No Tears only dreams pls.

>How would the job market for physicists be in the next 6 years?

Pretty bad especially if Bernie or Hillary wins in which case university education will be free/subsidized so expect a lot of STEM wannabes fighting for jobs

>mfw I might end up being a finance slave
its like the only respectable field that pays well above min wage. Or you can just join a "non-profit" organisation to make a "difference" while living on food stamps. Your call.

>Would I be able to work in the industry just as any engineer can, albeit in a different way? Please tell me everything's gonna be ok, I want to continue Physics, No Tears only dreams pls.

Sorry pal. To do an engineering job you NEED to get certified as an engineer. Whether its as an undergrad or masters, doesn't matter. Physicists can't just roll into an engineering job like that unless they are born geniuses.
>>
>>7854690
You're asking us to feed you a bunch of delusional eco chamber shit when you can just look up the statistics yourself.

Again, this is exactly what >>>/adv/ is for.
>>
>>7854697
I mean like it doesn't have to be an engineer job, it can be an R&D in the industry.
>>
>>7854707
Honestly, i got nothing from there, as most people there were either normal fag engineers or Liberal arts students
>>
>>7854716
>normalfags
Which is what most people both in academia and industry are.

Retards who watch BBT and don't consult real life people on degree prospects generally don't get to work in STEM.
>>
>>7854697
>Pretty bad especially if Bernie or Hillary wins in which case university education will be free/subsidized so expect a lot of STEM wannabes fighting for jobs

The only thing that prevents those 'STEM wannabes' from being STEM now is that they can't afford it. Free education would bring more competition, but competition is justified. It is what separates the 2 digit IQ and 2.0 GPA faggots like you who are afraid of it, from actual talented individuals that don't care if they go against 5 or 500 guys because they know they will still win.

Git gud, spergy.
>>
>>7854744
Maybe you yankfuckers should just quit with the grade inflation and raise your standards.

There's isn't a large pool of poorfags capable of doing STEM, but "can't afford it", that pool is already in university on scholarships and student loans. The hoards that will ocme in with free education is the cohort who think of university as high-school 2.0 and since it's free they don't feel guilty about wasting their time instead of working like they should.

They will spend 6-8 years to earn their bachelors then launch protests when they find employment.

>Pretty bad especially if Bernie or Hillary wins in which case university education will be free/subsidized so expect a lot of STEM wannabes fighting for jobs

This should result in an increase in the number of STEM positions as universities hire more faculty to cover the incoming students. Thus, less competition in the short term. Therefore, if OP finishes his degree and gets his doctorate in a timely manner, things should be good. The biggest risk is that no new hiring is spurned by increasing student numbers, which appears to be the case [administrative costs and staff increase with student numbers while faculty appears to remain largely static, despite faculty being the ones to more directly interface with the student body].

>Physicists can't just roll into an engineering job

The engineering firm I worked for had mostly physicists working in defense systems. Can't really comment on the commercial side.

Aerospace engineering companies hire physicists.

Top fucking kek.

You clearly have NO clue about supply and demand.

Are you retarded? With what fucking money? With what impact to their reputation? The faculty is paid for by research grants mostly from industry or military branches which will need to be cut to feul all the crazy socialist policies.

Having 1 faculty member per 50 or so from all the free graduates will not increase your job pool anyway.

Most faculty in the US have no serious research responsibilities because most are simply teachers. Research institutions fund their departments this way, but they are in the minority.

OP, I feel you. I finished my first semester in physics now.
And I don't know what the fuck I'm going to do after it got my bachelor/master. But I don't have a problem with this to be honest.
My problem is, that I hear/see/read that physicists are not really wanted anymore. All thoise engineering babies get the big moneys. And I'm probably gonna work for a shitty financial company. As a fucking physicists.
>orry pal. To do an engineering job you NEED to get certified as an engineer. Whether its as an undergrad or masters, doesn't matter. Physicists can't just roll into an engineering job like that unless they are born geniuses.
Also I don't understand this. Why shouldn't physicists be able to this? They are literally better engineers minus those shitty economy things.
What the fuck is wrong with this world? Fuck engineers, they're pussies.
>>
>>7854791
So your plan is to have us all employed as CC teachers?

That's not much of a career. Industry isn't going to magically grow to support all the new graduates. STEM would be FUBARed as a career there's no way around this fact.
>>
>>7854836
>As a fucking physicists.
You're NOT a physicist unless you have a PhD and you're an active researcher.

Having a bachelors degree in physics means fuckall. You might as well call yourself a physicist after finishing AP physics.
>>
>>7854836
>They are literally better engineers minus those shitty economy things.
They literally aren't. Everything you do in physics that's similar is a watered down version compared to engineering. In classical physics you do baby's first fluid mechanics ODE while engineers are deriving the Navier-stokes. They have no background in strength of materials, control, heat transfer, design, transport, modelling or anything important really.

Physics has absolutely nothing to do with engineering. It's not even close to the same degree. You're a BBT watching undergrad who has absolutely no idea what he's talking about.
>>
Physics is a women's degree that has 40% female graduates and growing.

You should've just learned to suck cock an join the engineering master race which has 20% and decreasing female grads.
>>
>>7854876
Seems untrue. At my university I see a shitton of females in EE and ME. I'm doing a physics degree and we have a total of 3 women here.
>>
>>7854680

Why do physicists always think they can do engineering?
>>
>>7854903
Why do engineers always think physicists can't do engineering?
>>
>>7854874
>watered down
>what is solid state physics, condensed matter physics, material science, advanced thermodynamics, and statistical mechanics

you're full of shit. engineers literally take boiled down technician versions of physics and math courses. this is fact. i don't even understand how you can argue it. who do you think designed your engineering program? physicists did. they were like "hey how do we make this easier for people?" and boom, your little engineering program came into being. be grateful we made life easier for you.
>>
>>7854874
>watered down version
Whatever helps you sleep at night bro.
>>
>>7854902
sounds like a really shit university and clearly the exception to rule.
>>
>>7854924
sick rebuttal, jr. technician. how does it feel knowing you aren't even a P.Eng until 5 years after your degree? in that time a postdoc will have made more money than you AND isn't a useless twat to the academic community.
>>
>>7854930
There's no need for a rebuttal when something is obviously false.
>>
>>7854945
hahaha this is how engineers think. you don't need to defend your statement because "it just makes sense, yo". you just summarized your existence in one statement. i bet you handwaive how equations work 99% of the time because it's "too much work and pointless", yeah? du/dv is just basic algebra cancellation lol!
>>
>>7854924
It is you moron. Take a classical mechanics class then take a dedicated heat transfer or transport class.

Classical mechanics is more like the history of a subject and a rigorous derivation of the basics. It doesn't even start to touch on modern theory and the difficult parts of the field. Physics is kids stuff until you get to grad-school, even then you're not going to be doing anything like engineering, you'll be reviewing modern physics and doing it more rigorously until you specialise in a physics field of research.

I don't know how you're expecting any different, maybe you should try to talking to people in real life instead of the internet and sitcoms.

your logic is so stupid. having to do rigorous proofs of established theories is "kids stuff"? no, applying formulas that physicists developed over the years is kids stuff. you using the navier stokes equation isn't harder than stokes deriving the equation using physics and mathematics.
>>
>>7854921
This actually. One of my friend is in EE and I'm in physics. He takes a course called 'expreimental physics for EE'. And guess what, they take fucking 2 months for fucking translation. Another two months for rotation and that's it.
>>7854874
This anon is full of shit. Engineers take easier physics courses because they suck. That's why they need 4 months for understanding translation and rotation.
>>
>>7854697
why do people equate "free university" with "more graduates"?

So guys, let's get down now.
Memeing and actually not knowing shit about aside now please.
What are jobs phyicists with a (bachelor)/master can do? I read and hear so many different opinions that I can't tell whats right and wrong anymore. I'm in my second semester of physics bachelor now. I'm not sure what to do after it. I definetely don't want to go into pure research, that's for sure.
So what are jobs are there actually? Give me some exact examples, and no bullshitting please. Like this >>7850745 >>7851522 anon.
And is it really true that there is a huge salary gap between engineers and physicists? I actually reall don't care that much about it, but would like to know anyway.

And if there's nothing to go into at the end, I thought I just might go into education. Always dreamed of teaching dumb little shits about physics.
