Sorry pal. To do an engineering job you NEED to get certified as an engineer. Whether its as an undergrad or masters, doesn't matter. Physicists can't just roll into an engineering job like that unless they are born geniuses.

The only thing that prevents those 'STEM wannabes' from being STEM now is that they can't afford it. Free education would bring more competition, but competition is justified. There's isn't a large pool of poorfags capable of doing STEM, but "can't afford it", that pool is already in university on scholarships and student loans. The hoards that will ocme in with free education is the cohort who think of university as high-school 2.0 and since it's free they don't feel guilty about wasting their time instead of working like they should.
They will spend 6-8 years to earn their bachelors then launch protests when they find employment.

This should result in an increase in the number of STEM positions as universities hire more faculty to cover the incoming students. Thus, less competition in the short term. Therefore, if OP finishes his degree and gets his doctorate in a timely manner, things should be good. The biggest risk is that no new hiring is spurned by increasing student numbers, which appears to be the case [administrative costs and staff increase with student numbers while faculty appears to remain largely static, despite faculty being the ones to more directly interface with the student body].

Most faculty in the US have no serious research responsibilities because most are simply teachers. Research institutions fund their departments this way, but they are in the minority.

In classical physics you do baby's first fluid mechanics ODE while engineers are deriving the Navier-stokes. Classical mechanics is more like the history of a subject and a rigorous derivation of the basics. It doesn't even start to touch on modern theory and the difficult parts of the field. Physics is kids stuff until you get to grad-school, even then you're not going to be doing anything like engineering, you'll be reviewing modern physics and doing it more rigorously until you specialise in a physics field of research.
I don't know how you're expecting any different, maybe you should try to talking to people in real life instead of the internet and sitcoms.

What are jobs phyicists with a (bachelor)/master can do? I read and hear so many different opinions that I can't tell whats right and wrong anymore. I'm in my second semester of physics bachelor now. I'm not sure what to do after it. I definetely don't want to go into pure research, that's for sure.
