>Have to take Orgo II because I decided to cuck up my life doing pre-pharmacy
>Professor wants us to decipher these bullshit spectrum graphs
>But doesn't give us any reference values on the exam
So here I am memorizing fucking tables like an autist. How do chemfaggots justify this shitty class again?

You get used to it eventually. It is still bullshit that you don't get any reference material though.

You bloody autist! Don't memorize the tables, just memorize the patterns... Not the values, but the form of the lines.
Orgo is love, orgo is life
>>
>>7839584
What patterns exactly?
I can see the simple shit like O-H, C-O, C-C bonds but those will only eliminate like one or two possibility.
He gives us 50 mins for an exam.
I had this faggot for orgo I and I learned the hard way that every fucking question and mechanism has to be muscle memory or else I'll run out of time.
Orgo is autism at the undergrad level and don't you try to justify this shit

Exactly the reason why I never took a chem class past honors orgo I
>>
>>7839573
IR is just spotting the 1720 nm, the thumbprint region, and just knowing the common locations of solvents. Yeah desu most guys end up memorizing locations. Also

It's more important to memorize shifts for NMR. Like seriously important. Like there's actual entire classes devoted to looking at these spectra.

Ir spectra really make no intuitive sense until you take physical chemistry, sorry anon
>>
maybe take a pic w your phone and use on test?

got me grade I needed in the class

Once again "YouTube" saved me through all of Orgo I and ii
>>

You dolt it's not muscle memory it's fucking electrophiles and nucleophiles or acid base reactions it's just electron pushing
>>
I work at a top 15 pharm school (I'm an undergrad) and the students are all weird as fuck. Have fun op

>memorizing tables like an autist
He is giving you the molecular formula, right? Hell, even if he just gave you a molecular weight I don't see the problem, anybody should be able to competently read an IR on simple molecules like this without hardcore rote memorization....
