what's the price?
>>
If the price of the game is $100, the customer has to pay $100 to buy it.
Also, due to the cost of the game is $1 pulus half of it's prise, the cost is $51. then$49 will be the profit for the provider.
>>
The answer is already in the image. x/2+1 dollars is the cost.
>>
dont take the change
>>
>>7834478
$1+$0.50=$1.50
>>
>>7834478
It costs 1 dollar. That has already been established. What the price is, who knows.
>>
>>7834523
So its
1 dollar +50 cents because half.
now its 1.50, so half is 75 cents. But we already add 50, so we add 25 cause 75-50=25
now its 1.75 and half is .875 but already add .75
so now its 1.875 .9875 1.9875 .99875 1.99875 .999875 1.999875 .9999875

so 2 really is 1.999999999999999999999999999999999...

What's the price?
>>
>>7835052
He's referring to the fact that generally, in a business setting, the "cost" of a product is how much a business has paid to get it on the shelf, and "price" is how much they ask for it.

He's also retarded.

Is here a Science & Math or Linguistics board ?

A game cost $1 plus half it's price. (org.)
A game cost $1 plus half of its price.→$2
A game cost $1 and half. It's the price.→$1.5
A game's cost is $1 plus half of its price.→depends on the price.
A game cost $1 plus half of it.→ether $1.5 or $2
A game cost $1 plus half of the cost.→clearly $2

0.5 x + 1 = x

There's no answer since we don't know what the price is.

Cost = $1 + (Price/2)
>>
>>7834478
A game costs $1 plus half it is price.

>generally, in a business setting, the "cost" of a product is how much a business has paid to get it on the shelf
Nope, that's "wholesale cost" or "wholesale price".
"Price" and "Cost" are synonyms, and neither indicates whether it's wholesale or retail.

If they meant two different things, the puzzle would be meaningless, so OBVIOUSLY they aren't referring to two different amounts.

Really, there's no telling if the amount in question is wholesale or retail.

Oh, and just to add to the cloud of retardation around this puzzle: it's from "The Moscow Puzzles" and the game was originally a book.
But I guess the sort of people that are stumped by it are unfamiliar with books.
>>
Hey! Why are you guys thinking the question is "How much dollars does it cost ?" It isn't, is it ?
So, the appropriate answer in this case would be like "Not much" or "Very much"... also like "So much" or "Too much" could be fun.
>>
>>7834478
it depends on if you say "price = 1$" or "price = price * 150%" with the latter wouldn't be possible.

It is funny how to the untrained eye, that questions sounds illogical but you need only express it as an equation and then it turns into basic algebra.

the games still cost $1 initially, its only when you have the game and start it that you find you mustnow pay a further 50c to have the licence to play.

Anyone who thinks a store would market something at $2.00 instead of $1.99 is an out-of-touch autist.
>>
>>7835652
Yeah but you took a formalizing step to get to the equation. And you did assumption for that.
That's what can be discuss, the meaning of cost, price. The scope of the "cost". Etc.
>>
If the price is $2, it cost $2.18 in California.

>>7834478
the price could be anything plus a dollar plus half of anything

It's (w/apostrophe) : means in short of "It is" or "It has".
eg. It's winter now.
Its (without apostrophe) : means the possessive from it, belongs to it.
eg. Set on its top.

>>
>>7834478
The phrasing of the question makes it a logical paradox. If the game cost a certain amount of money plus half of what it costs, it wouldn't cost what it costs before you add the half, so you couldn't add that half. Therefore this question is stupid and you can suck it.
>>

>>7837220
yeah, no
all the sentence says that the price is a combination of 1 dollar and half of the price
there's no weird recursive paradox going on here, the price is not changing, it's just split up into two different components verbally
>>
>>7835544
They're reading it like this

One dollar, plus half one dollar
>>
y = 1 + y/2
y - 1 = y/2
2y - 2 = y
2y - y - 2 = 0
y - 2 = 0

>I can't into basic math
a car costs 5000 dollars
a car costs 2500 dollars plus half of its actual price
lo and behold, 2500+5000/2 sums up to 5000, our original car price

what you're saying "if you have to add half of the price to get the price you can't know the price"
but the price isn't re-calculated while you're doing the addition
it's already set in stone

if you still believe I'm wrong then I have no idea how to clarify things further for you
there's no logical paradox
>>
$1 plus half it's price
>>
>>7834478
Abmiguous. "It's" is a contraction of "it is" and if you mean "its", then we don't know whether the pronoun implies another subject or not.
Mathematics require unambiguous language.
>>
>>7841407
If you read it the way people assume it's to be read, then you need a limit. This problem is an old greek paradox: Zeno's paradox.
