The higgs boson is predicted from our currently strongest model for fundamental particles. If we can't find the higgs, we'd need another model.

Also, this guy is mostly right. Experimental high energy physics has taken waayy too much of the funding pool for too long. It has prevented innovation in accelerator technology.
