Base 8.
You can confirm by plugging 3 into the equation. You will get -2. So obviously, your base is 2 off to the left. I was of course, doing it in base 10 so 2 to the left of 10 is 8.
However, I never did a problem like this so to not end up like an idiot, I did confirm it using my calculator that can calculate in different bases.
