Is psychology really a science? I mean, ofc it does not follow the idealized scientific method the way, say, Physics does, but is it close enough to a real science to deserve such title? Are ideas like projection, collective subconscious, Piaget's child development stages or Freud's sexual phases scientifically valid the way, say, the second law of thermodynamics or the inverse-square law of light are? Moreover, when it comes to practical maters (therapy, to be more precise) how effective is it?

Is anime really a science? I mean, ofc it does not follow the idealized scientific method the way, say, Physics does, but is it close enough to a real science to deserve such title? Are ideas like animu girls, anime-con clubs, Advent Child series or Rangiku's boobs scientifically valid the way, say, the second law of DeathNote or theBoku no Pico of light are? Moreover, when it comes to practical maters (Naruto, to be more precise) how effective is it?

Some psychology is science, especially modern psychology. Of course, things like Freud's sexual phases are total bullshit, which is recognized by the whole psychology community.

No

>yfw freud was a medical doctor
It's a science. It follows the scientific method.

Ethically, it can't be a hard science.

I know almost nothing about the subject but I get the impression, from the little I've read (Freud, Piaget and what I heard on a psychology course), that it is something far closer to philosophy than science. I'm reminded of things like Hume's theory of ideas or Wittgenstein's phenomenology.

Do you mind sharing examples of the "some" of psychology that you call science? Like experiments with conclusive results, for example.

Psychology is getting better, in the past few years they have setup an independent review board to evaluate and replicate published research. This should have been done years ago, but it would be rather dishonest to say psychology wasn't a science.

Psychology isn't real science. Neurology is a real science.

That said, psycology is based of observations and patterns and it's somewhat scientific and it is useful. The classifications of mental disorders they have are vauge and shitty, but psychology does function as a sort of functional system.

Basically, it's all bullshit, but it seems to work if you apply it. Kinda like religious doctrine, or sociology.
>>
It IS a science, but psychologists have done poor attempts to develop it and make real findings.

It's like saying physics is not a science in a world where all the physics researchers are retarded. There are things to be found, but we haven't found them yet.

Fuck off guy. Seriously.
