Hey /sci/,
does anyone here have medical knowledge and can tell me, if it is possible, to keep one eye closed for the rest of their lives? Besides amblyopia, the eye is completely healthy. Would the eyesight be affected it would stay close for a year and then reopened again?

If you're embarrassed about having a lazy eye, just get the surgery to straighten it. It's a really simple procedure.

As to your question, the eye would be fine if you didn't use it for years, in fact it might even be better off without all that wear and tear.

It probably wouldn't be an issue. If you were to do something like this as an infant it could result in an underdeveloped primary visual cortex but if you're older than that you shouldn't have any permanent deficits.

Yes it would cause problems.

Your brain would learn to do everything with one eye only and when you open your eye up again after the year it would have to re-learn a lot of things again.

Try it and document your findings for science m8.

>brain would adapt to one eyedness

which it gonna be?

Ask your optometrist.

I hypothesise that it will get worse - I've got amblyopia but not the kind where your eye starts going the wrong direction, it's internal and it got slightly better when I was younger and they used a special lense to stop it being lazy.
