Is there any practical application to astronomy and astrophysics or is it just useless stargazing? Seems to me everything useful to do with space is aerospace engineering.

They help us understand the universe along with physicists. Understanding how our solar system work also helps aerospace engineers design spacecraft. Most of it is research, but some of it is actually applied. Learn to google.

How does knowing the planets revolve around the sun have anything to do with rockets aside from planning the course which isn't rocket design but the mission?
