This isn't the 1950s, and these aren't the same guys. Those guys are all long-since retired, and today's Lockheed Martin is not in any useful sense a descendant of the company that bore that name half a century ago. The name is simply a corporate asset that has been bought and perched on top of one branch of America's anticompetitive, consolidated aerospace industry, which makes money, not progress.
"But..." I hear you say, "some of their products *are* getting more advanced!" They buy technology. The way it works now is that people create start-ups when they have an idea. Once the idea is developed to a usable level, they sell out to a megacorp, which has the legal clout and lobbying power to profit from it.
When they start talking about developing a new technology on their own, in house, you know they're bullshitting. They probably have got a plan for soaking either the government or investors for large sums of money by failing to make a practical fusion device. They certainly are profitting greatly from other failures.
