So /sci/ What are your opinions on a fully conscious Artificial Intelligence one that is aware it is a program and that can learn and think by its self , How far off are we from code and machines that can actually do that?

I swear to god, the second edition had such an awesome cover. The 3rd edition cover triggers me every time, like a book for children with special needs.

I've got a copy of the second addition and I really prefer the new cover. Quite dislike the old one tbqh (perhaps because I spent so long looking at it).
