What does /sci/ think about brain training?

Never been interested, it just seems like silly mini games to me.
>>
I used it for a period of time consistently. Hell, I've even bought the subscription for it and I also got 2 other similar apps and did "games" on them as well. I noticed no tangible benefits after weeks of using them. Though my scores did increase over time.

desu I'm talking less about the silly mini-games and more about the dual n-back stuff harder stuff.

Anyone done this consistently for a while and seen results in your cognitive performance in your studies/research?
>>
I trained mine to speak and fetch
>>
Incredibly effective. I have been on it for 8 weeks and me and my friends can tell the difference. I talk fast, I ace tests, I get paid to teach, I write god tier texts, I got gud at counter strike

Did you get to fuck bitches, Anon? Please say yes.

Wouldn't just playing a game of Starcraft be better brain training?

I've seen some peer reviewed articles about Starcraft and cognition, etc. It's more fun and requires much more advanced reasoning than "remember these numbers in the order we boringly tell them to you."
>>
>>7762677
>Starcraft
>fun
enjoy your muta spam
>>

If you play a single player game 1v7 computers on a non-money map, that would require some cognitive thinking.

I'm not talking about ling rushing on a 4v4 BGH game or anything
>>
You get good at games, get high scores on them, and feel smart.

Hardly any influence beyond slight improvement in tetris.
>>
>>7762628
reporting all this advertisement bullshit
>>

I don't see the point.

If you want to get better at math, do math.
If you want to improve your memory, practice memorizing things.

Playing games is just going to make you better at playing games.

idk man,
- learn to write with your left hand (assuming you're right handed)?
- learn ten finger blind typing?
- learn drawing?
- learn fast reading?
- learn to play some musical instrument?
- learn a language thats different enough from your first one?
- do physical exercises regularly?
- sleep well?
- memorize poetry pieces?
- solve puzzles? (rubik's cubes of all sorts, SET, etc)

Read Daniel Dennet's "Intuition Pumps"?
Read "Thinking fast and thinking slow"?

i think that'd probably be more useful for your brain than that lumosity stuff

>>
>>7762628
That's a meme. Do you want a brain training?
You can play chess,play starcraft,play aoe,do maths,read...
>>
Play Call of Duty or Battlefield. FPS games are really good for cognitive thinking.
>>
>>7762628
Fuck off shill, also this >>7762836
>>
>>7762961
No matter how often I play, I suck at these games. They also always tell me to get rekt son. It just lowers my self-esteem in the end. I didn't have a good relationship with my father.

Did you contrarian paranoid fucks ever consider that I'm not shilling and actually want some genuine feedback on something before I spend money on it?

I know /pol/ has polluted your almond-sized brain to the point that you think anything you don't like is "shilling", but really, get a grip, a real degree, a job and a girlfriend -- in that order, please.
