IQ is just a minimum requirement for learning something (usually it's actually much lowers than you'd think).
(Lack of) Motivation, persistence, and time are what keep most people from learning it, not IQ.

I have IQ about 87 (thus I am really bad at figuring things out for myself on my own) but I have master degree in physics. Therefore I would conclude that IQ has very little relevance to learning physics.

Besides, a computer simulation can have zero IQ but still be very helpful in researching physics.

From my experience learning physics is all about accepting, testing and applying the quasi-mathematical apparatus used by physics.

Discovering *some* new things in physics may require high intelligence, but many discoveries happen by accident with people not even trying to discover them.
