Is it too late to be saved from global warming?
>>
>>7750350
Global warming isn't going to kill humanity, just a bunch of humans. We'll do just fine in that regard, there are far worse things to be concerned about - not to say we shouldn't address it.
>>
>>7750351
Good point. Do you think this will increase the gap of superpowers and impoverished nations? Do I have to worry about America's dominance ending? I've heard the bread basket will no longer be as fertile.

Also, what's the best area to live and buy land with my mind on the future? The South will be underwater and fucked by increasingly strong storms. Should I move to the midwest or the west?
>>
Global warming will happen regardless. Id be more worried about the next resistant super virus if i were you.
>>
>>7750376
I feel like we are better prepared for sickness, even if individual people are fucked when they get it. If nothing else, we can do extreme contamination measures or just kill and burn whoever gets it. Global warming is on a massive scale and doesn't come across as "pressing" to most people.

Also, viruses just kill people, they don't do long-term damage to the environment. There are too many fucking people any way.
>>
>>7750351
Which bigger things? Do you think there are any contenders to kill humanity?

Well we could colonise space to spread our odds.
>>
>>7751241
we're not completely defenseless. an early warning system will launch next year I believe, so we can at least map those bastards that come within a range. Of course if Mr. Gargantua is hurling towards us, better find a good hiding spot.

I blame the Republican tards who against science and poison people.

Just plain retarded. Still living in the false dichotomy. Also ignoring real climate science. Might be a girl...they rip on republicans to look smart and cool in front of hipsters.

Space debris. Or just space in general.
Also disease is a big one, it wouldn't kill off humans but the good majority

The USA is the country still debating whether global warming exists. Lol.
>>
It's not too late, but it's too warm
>>
>>7750351
This. Global warming might give the environment and impoverished tropical subsistence communities a good hard fucking, but humanity will endure even if it means climbing over eachother to keep their heads above water (metaphorically speaking, for the most part).
>>7751378
>Oh no, life on Earth is slightly more difficult
>Fuck migrating to the poles, LET'S GO TO FUCKING SPACE
>>
>>7750357
You shouldn't be worried about USA losing power due to less resources.

You should be worried about the government taking control of everything and bigger world-governments forming in the wake of catastrophes and further economic collapse. And war probably.
>>
>>7750350
>Is it too late
Yes, by about 75 years.
Developed ("first-world") nations will experience only minor inconvenience, but developing ("third-world") nations may suffer greatly from climate instabiltiy that will make drought areas more subject to drought, and fllood areas more subject to flood. Tropical disease is already moving into temperate zones, and will continue to worsen through this century. The good news is that in a few hundred years, climate should return to (the old) normal.
>>
>>7752375

Look at the current migrant crisis in Europe. Migration of 100+ million people due to climate change in the coming decades is going to causes a lot of pressure on the 1st world.

US has a pretty solid foundation. We did not become an industrial powerhouse until the World Wars but we were self sufficient and an agricultural paradise from the beginning.
North America is a friggin' cornucopia with a large side order of mineral wealth.
Even putting half of it under water won't change that.
We're cool.
>>
>>7750350
No, they earth will go back to a cooling cycle. It doesn't care what we do either way and we won't be able to warm ourselves in the cooling cycle with any amount of CO2.

Not the Syrians, but all the cunts from Africa are coming to seek a less shitty existence. When they get even hungrier, more will come out of desperation.
>>
>>7750350
The correct answer must be yes, at the moment, becouse the warming has already stopped.
>>
>>7750351
>Global warming isn't going to kill humanity
Of course not, just a huge portion of it.

>We could science the shit out of it!

It is troubling to me that many people deny climate change as a major problem, or even a minor one. Doing so means rejecting the scientific method, and disagreeing with the overwhelming majority of the scientific community.

About whether or not climate change is the most pressing problem, I think many people are near sighted. Just because the consequences won't be obvious for another decade doesn't mean the issue is not important- don't forget, even the small steps like using a bicycle instead of a car or turning off electronics when they are not in use can help.

To answer the question of the thread, I think it is possible to significantly reduce the harms of climate change. However, I think the first step has to be near universal acknowledgment of the problem.

First of all
>namefag+tripfag

Second of all, I agree with everything you're saying but am too skeptical of human nature to be able to change anything.

https://www.bmsworldmission.org/engagecatalyst/mission-catalyst-climate-change-is-boring/10-reasons-why-nobody-seems-care-about-clim

There's tons of articles like this around so I just chose one at random. There are just too many reasons people are voluntarily inactive about the subject. The problem is though that any noticeable changes in the climate are multiplied later on due to factors like water absorbing and then releasing large amounts of heat and carbon dioxide. As it stands politicians really aren't doing anything more than holding meetings on what they should be doing in the future to prevent climate change but we should have been acting decades ago when we first found out about it. To top it all off policy changes real slow so by the time they make up their minds it will be too late. Then you have those heavily invested in the business as usual code of conduct who refuse to lower their standards of living in exchange for longer lives. All in all, if climate change is as real as scientists say it is we're fucked and there's no point worrying about it anymore.
>>
>>7753644
No, not a huge portion of it...
>>
>>7753686
>Doing so means rejecting the scientific method
No it doesn't. There is a climate (pun intended) of fear surrounded climate change and it is pretty much career suicide to speak out against it.

Much like a geneticist claiming that there is no fag gene or a psychologist claiming that trans individuals suffer from a severe psychological malfunction. Climate science is bad science.

What needs to happen is for a clear line in the sand to be drawn where one side says that climate change is happening, but due to many causes (most natural) and the other side that says humans are the direct and major contributor to climate change. Not all that many scientists are in the latter category, but non-scientists are abundant and include findings from the former category in their arguments by cherry-picking.
>>
>>7753978
Fuck off with this cherry-picking nonsense and implying there's a divide between man-made climate change and natural-made climate change. First you wanted to say scientists are divided on climate change as a whole by cherry-picking a few scientists, then you moved the goalposts to scientists being divided on man-made climate change and even that's been debunked. Keep on track with how badly your side is getting fucked before you make it look even worse. You make tobacco companies look good in comparison.

>100+ million people

It's not insignificant if they're all criminal savages with backwards values, as they tend to be.

Just look at Marseille, shittiest and most violent city in France simply because of demographics.
>>
>>7753686
>It is troubling to me that many people deny climate change as a major problem, or even a minor one.
The issue isn't whether people acknowledge that it's a problem. Anyone with any sense is aware that by its very nature, the climate is always changing. The big issue is the anthropogenic climate change and whether it has any material effect on the process.

The answer is: not especially. While climate change should still be on some level of a priority, the fact that it gets convoluted and politicized into green movements vs fossil fuels just makes everyone not want to deal with it at all.
