What are my chances of being an astronaut if I join the Air Force with an engineering education from a top ten school? I also have 20/20 vision, speak Russian, and am decently /fit/

If your only hope of receiving this information is to ask on a meme forum, then your chances are lower than the difference between 1 and 0.999...
>>
There's nothing autistic about your dream. However, it will take the willpower of an autist to accomplish it.

Youd need to make it to being a test pilot.

Air force engineers just do delegated authority requests, maintenance concessions, and fse investigation.

Pretend I'm retarded (it shouldn't be hard).... How do?

I make $80k as an aerospace engineer, what are my chances of getting a gf? Keep in mind I'm 23, 5'6", chubby, and have never held hands with a girl.

Ask on /k/, not here.

That being said, your odds are about as good as winning a gold medal at the Olympics or getting a Nobel Prize

80k should get you a perfectly good opportunistic wall hitting single mother to hold your hand, anon.

i'd just wait for the virtual and robotic waifu revolution though.

You have to make it to pilot first obviously. Youd then require to make it to a fighter squadron which means you would need to possess the correct attributes (height, torso:leg, arm length, upper:lower leg, eyesight, hearing, reaction time, etc).
You then need to hold a command of a fighter squadron, have experience on multiple frames, have done tours where you faced engagements. You then need to get your test pilot CAT.

After being a test pilot for a while you could apply to astronaut academy but its still very competitive with few openings, and you would likely prefer being a test pilot anyway.

This is pointless though because if you were really driven to do this you would already have researched and talked to people and started securing your position for a scholarship or af academy

Lel this, have fun becoming an astronaut by browsing a Mongolian tapestry weaving forum
>>
Space is for robots now, lad.
>>
The best chance would probably not be as a pilot. Get into a field that is needed for mission specialists.

Not only that, but most test pilots get tagged to being an SME on one frame for testing.
For example, you could be an F16 test pilot, and your job will be testing new software effects, post phase servicing, post fse, new LRE, or flight protocol test flights.

And I imagine if you were destined to be an astronaut, youd be tagged for it early in your career.

The best option for a non-military astronaut, is to be the best in the world in a related field that a research agency needs to test in space. That is how most astronauts get there.

I don't know how you get down that path but id say its equally difficult

I say go for it. worst case you end up going from Air Force pilot to commercial pilot. Not a bad life at all.
Also Air Force is best service.
>>
Holy fug I already feel pretty retarded. I'm Canadian and we haven't had recruiting in a while so I was hoping to get a dual citizenship and become an astronaut in the US. I'm pretty much just starting out now, so I already am disadvantaged because you hear about how the current astronauts started thinking about it when they were 6 years old at least. When I was 6 years old I was playing CS 1.6 and the original starcraft holy moly

maybe you can become a nice mediocre commercial spacecraft captain within a few decades

Don't believe the autist nay-sayers in this thread, if you give a shit and try hard enough, you have a chance
