Is there any use for me as a biochemistry major to take a linear algebra class?
>>7747251
>linear algebra
that shit is piss easy
>>7747257
Yeah that's what I've been hearing which is why i enrolled in the course
>>7747259
>enrolled because it's easy
how does it feel to be the chaff that gets separated form the wheat
>>7747266
Well I was good at math in highschool and I enjoy math. I just picked Lin Alg over Physics because there's no lab component, hence less work, hence easier
>>7747272
>I was good at math in highschool
>highschool
>math
>>7747251
eww
>>7747283
First year uni isn't really advanced math either is it?
Can I say that I'm good at math if I can do differential equations?
>>7747606
no.
>>7747614
Most individuals do not know what a differential equation is.
>>7747606
You're good at math if you're good at Real Analysis and Functional Analysis.
>>7747656
Just get finished with your first Real Analysis and Functional Analysis course?
>>7747251
This isn't /b/. Reported.
>>7747659
Yes.
A little bit of math is always useful.
Also a lot of bio-chem related algorithms ride on linear algebra + probability (Trust me: I'm an IT mayor whom thesis was about a bio-chem simulation stuff.)
>>7747641
From the ones who do know, many aren't good at math.
>>7747663
isn't that just peanut butter
What the hell is wrong with the hand?
>>7747251
I still remember how the introduction of my linear algebra book gave us two applied examples of the uses of linear algebra, one in physics and one in chemistry. The chemistry one was quite literally a guaranteed way to balance chemical equations.
Of course, you didn't have to know about isomorphisms to make that happen, all you had to do was reduction but meh. You should learn it anyway. Linear algebra is like calculus, really basic math that anyone in the 21st century should know.

Trypodermatosis is a rare skin disorder usually caused by Photoshop.
>>7747824
Or peanut butter spread on the hand and then poked full of holes
>>7747296
nope. in my mind math didn't start until i started my upper division courses
>>7747251
If you use statistics you should have at least an introductory linear algebra course imho senpai
>>7747807
>really basic math that anyone in the 21st century should know.
I agree with this to an extent. Unless you're a math guy, you don't need to know how to solve hard problems and write elegant proofs. You just need to know all the tools at your disposal and be able to enter the problems into some math software.

Or a programmer. You need linear algebra in CV and ML among many other things.
>>7747836
No, it's actually goop for hiding scars.
>>7748886
You don't have to do any linear algebra as a programmer since there's usually already libraries with that functionality.
>>7748894
>you don't have to understand garbage collection, data structures, and sorting as a programmer because they're handled by the runtime/standard lib
>>7748965
doing =/= understanding
Read what I actually said, not what you think I said.
