Yo, /sci/entists. what is your fave metal? mine is gallium.

Diamond, because it's the hardest.

Q-carbon is a harder metal.
*sigh* my pop said when I was a kid that "titanium was his fave metal". is he a normie?

OP here. Bi is a quite fantastic metal, but I just really like gallium
I like Co2 because its popular. Also i like trains but they arent metal after all :/
>>7735905
could you stop trolling, m8?
Lithium or Potassium, can't really decide
>>7735922
those are actually really good candidates, m8. my fave is a tie: the op's(who was me) fave was gallium, but caesium ties with it
gold
>>7735922
Potassium's more reactive, so I'd go with that.

ikr. also, neat dubs

Nothing beats reactivity. Which is why I don't like the noble gasses.

this
also i really like gold and ill pick it as my fav
>>7735804
I don't even know why I like silver but it's my favourite metal.
Osmium,

Iron up in this bitch.
It's a toss up between Vanadium and Stontium. Did you know that Amanita muscaria accumulates unusually large amounts of Vanadium, and Acantharia forms it's cytoskeleton from Strontium sulfate?

>>7736538
They still make these?
And haven't all the ones that were made stopped glowing?
Copper.

Apparently potassium is better because its "more reactive"
>>7736807
I can't imagine any place still does it with all the new technology that can accomplish the same thing (and better). Tritium won't shoot gamma rays at you.
You can always find them all over eBay/garage sales, though. Might even find a jar of extra paint if you're looking for it.
That's part of how that one guy built a reactor in his backyard.
And yeah, most of them don't glow anymore, but oddly enough they'll still give you cancer. It's actually the non-radioactive crystal that's broken down with time.
They're not really THAT dangerous. The factory workers had to literally eat the radium paint all day long to get immediate effects.
A lot of people expose themselves to worse stuff every day and do alright.
Mercury. The only metal liquid at room temp. And drinkable too!

>>7736884
I'm guessing eating a banana every day would expose you to far more radiation.
>>7737167
>the only metal liquid at room temp
That's just not even accurate nigger.
There are at least 4 others. 3 of which exist somewhere in nature.
Cesium, rubidium, francium, and the already mentioned gallium.
>>7735812
Give that man a cookie!
>>7735780
mememium.
hardest metal known to man.
only discovered recently by the scientist Dr. Pepe.
>>7737247
That's actually not that bad of an estimate. Considering the surface area and the location, you really aren't getting that much gamma radiation at all.
I've heard estimates like >.1 millirem a week, which is way less than an airplane pilot would get from the increased exposure to outer space.
The usual banana estimate is like .01/week, but it's not really that cut and dry either.
The older watches (see: all of them) are obviously more of an issue because there's more to it than that. Radium's daughter isotopes can be pretty nasty, and if you ever crack the glass you're in for some fun.
Also it was the early 1900s so who even knows what they actually put in there. It could be literal poison.
Either way I wouldn't wear it around every day.
What about this fucker? Quicksilver deserves attention as well
Dragonforce, the hardest metal known to man.
>>7737345
Mercury isn't a metal, it's a liquid.

>>7739643
Not that guy, but hydrogen is metallic under high pressure (and temperature?) go look in Jupiter's core.
>>7735780
Zirconium best metal.
Hydrogen is my favorite metal because it is the only metal that's purely theoretical.
When the conduction band and valence band of an element overlap, it is technically a metal. Hydrogen is the only element we have not been able to put into this state. It's pretty interesting stuff.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallic_hydrogen
>>7735780
Thrash
>>7739671
Well, we don't really know for sure if it really does exist in Jupiter's core. It's all speculation. We've never actually been able to study metallic hydrogen.
Assuming our models are correct, then yes there is a good chance it exists in Jupiter's core.
