Is khan academy a good place to start learning chemistry up the first year undergrad? I want to major in Chemistry, but I want to make sure I cover all highschool material before I go in the fall. I dropped out of my last program because of how much I hated it.

Why do you do this to yourself. You have enough time to find another potential interest and yet you decide to go back to the shittiest science.

Literally memorize reactions to pass. No critical thinking required.

Tell me that at least you are going into chemical engineering and not pure chemistry because at least in ChemE its less about memorizing reactions and more about learning practical skills to be able to carry out reactions in the real world.

No need, Gen Chem starts from scratch.

Why is chem the shittiest science, it seems by far the most interesting. The idea of being able to make chemical compounds and understand the fundamental building blocks of our society is more appealing than doing proofs all day.

I want to go into pharmacy or nanotech, that's why I'm going into chem.

I'd prefer to be ahead of the game.

going to go ahead and warn you now that chemistry is in no uncertain terms one of the toughest majors out there. if you dropped out of a biology program because you got rekt in intro to ecology and evolution, chemistry is going to wipe the floor with you.

but if you're insistent on studying chemistry and you want to get ahead, the AP chemistry exam study guides might be good. You probably won't really understand anything on the chemical level, but you'll at least learn the dimensional analysis and the mathematical techniques you end up using in chemistry a lot.

don't listen to

memorizing reactions has nothing to do with chemistry. at most, memorizing reactions will get you a C+ in Organic chemistry, which is just one chemistry class.

I don't expect it to be an easy major, but what chem courses are difficult? It's been over 3 years since I've done chem which was back in 11th grade, and I just started again today.

When I was in high school I used Khan Academy for my AP Chemistry class and I think it helped. I got a 4 so that's decent.

He told you why - it's just memorisation.
It lacks the mathematical detail and variety of physics (I'm not saying it isn't mathematical), but has none of the interesting emergent behaviour of biology.

Khan is good for homework help or getting prepared for a class. Khan is NOT a good supplementation of a class.

Just take intro to chemistry and move from there if you aren't versed in chemistry yet.
>>
>>7735623
I believe you meant "supplanation", not "supplementation." Khan Academy is a great supplement.

lol you're absolutely correct.

Now you know why I got a B in English 1 & 2

this is why no one likes you people

Nice, kill yourself.

Hardest portion is inorganic chemistry.

I'm currently doing physical chemistry

You just need to teach yourself basic multi variable calculus like partial derivatives and super simple diffy eqs to understand. The hardest support will come from your physics backgrounds but you get to learn all sorts of cool things like why does heat flow from hot to cold, why it's very improbable to time travel, etc. (Some may argue that this is actually just physics)

If you really want to do chemistry, I bid you good luck.

Although, I have such a great passion for chemistry, I decided to go for chemical engineering in order to avoid the poorfag destiny of a chemist. Teach yourself whatever you want to learn on the side as a hobby.

tl;dr
>I recommend that you just pick any undergraduate general chemistry textbook to get started. Teachers usually slow you down. If you actually need chemistry help, I wouldn't mind helping.

I'm available on skype chat as unforsakenxii.

Because any fucking around with it at a hobby level will likely get your ass handed to you by the police, legal or illegal.
