/b/ argues on just about everything.
Does a mathematician here have a solid answer to this?
My logic says it would be 9, but I could be wrong.
It's 9. You're retarded just for doubting it.

6/6 is 1 m8
>>7721385
this
>>7721387
not him but by standard conventions it is 9. one should evaluate the parentheses first
6/2(1+2)=6 / 2(3)
then, since mult and div are considered to be on equal footing in the order of operations, one should evaluate from left to right,
6/2(3)=3(3)
3(3)=9

[math]\frac{6}{2(1+2)}=\frac{6}{2*1+2*2}=\frac{6}{2+4}=\frac{6}{6}=1[/math]

This. Why is it so hard for people to fucking understand that in PEMDAS, multiplication and division are done at the same time from left to right. Same with addition and subtraction. Fuck.
>>7721276
>Go to matlab/calculator/fucking-google
>Plug in formula
Tada
>>7721276
Ambiguous questions have more than one (or none) correct answer.
Due to its ambiguity, 1 is not incorrect
I use BODMAS (an abbreviation) to solve it in order
Brackets
Over
Division
Multiplication
Addition
Subtraction

/b/ is honestly the dumbest community on the internet, and that's saying something. Every other chan on the internet has smarter people on their lol so randumb board.
>>7721445
Great. I was tought PEMDAS as M before D.
>9
>meme answer
its 1, and anyone who says otherwise is just pulling your leg
>>7721276
the fact that this is actually a debate is pretty much all you need to realize that 4chan is fucking retarded. PEMDAS is like arithmetic shit that you learn in grade school. how fucking stupid are you people?
div/multi are equal and done left to right, same goes for add/sub
just fucking kill yourselves if you're actually this dumb and even had to debate something so elementary
>>7721276
9
when faced with both division and multiplication like that, it is calculated from left to right.
outside of gradeschool and calculators, no one used this division symbol.
>>7723541
Pemdas is taught where MD and AS are pairs. Left to right.
>>7721276
I don't know any mathematician who's enough of an idiot to use that ambiguous piece of shit symbol for division.
>>7723695
that division sign isn't actually ambiguous (it doesn't mean anything different than a /), but it does throw most people off.
if you replaced it with a standard / then i think the % of correctness would actually go up, for psychological reasons
BEDMAS says 1, to me anyway
It could be written as either
>6÷2 ×(1+2)=9
or
>6÷[2(1+2)]=1
This is some world crisis tbqhwy f a m i l y
>>7723707
the division symbol (obelus) does not imply everything after it is a denominator.
>>7721276
6 ÷ 2 * (1+2)
6 ÷ 2 * 3
3 * 3
9
