If you think of the normal scenery around a typical mammal, it is more likely to be brown/golden/white/black like the forest floor.
Obvious examples that contradict this are smaller tree-dwelling mammals but brown still suits them well.
In addition, mammals are generally a very young subgroup of animals. Therefore there will be overall less statistical chance to arrive at a favourable green mutation due to a smaller amount of chances/generations compared with other types of animal.
