Mochizuki published a proof of the abc-conjecture in 2012 which relies on a new area of mathematics (Teichmuller) he founded. Only he and some of his students understand it, and because of how complex all this shit is nobody has bothered to verify the proof. If you Google the abc-conjecture youd find out about its implications.

He did not create Teichmüller Theory, he created p-adic Teichmüller Theory and Inter-Universal Teichmüller Theory.
