I have a problem that I can't resolve in my mind. If you have an Archimedes Screw in a tube am I right in saying that it is impossible for air to flow through the tube faster than the speed of the screw? I need to know this for an invention that I am working on.

>am I right
no
>>
>>7687940
Nope. Their is a passage from one side to the other without interruption.
>>
>>7687942
There*. Fucked that one up good.
You're still wrong though OP

Thanks, I thought as much. Back to the drawing board.

What's the comparison of speeds?

Okay.

Torque = rF(sin(theta))

Anyway if it's shut off and impermissible towards air passing the rotational lever, then no shit. It has to stay in tune with the speed of the rotation.

I dont understand what youre trying to say please dumb it down

Is there any opening for air to get through? Like is it closed off or is there an opening?
>>
>>7687940

No, the air will travel up the spiral. The screw would slow it down a little.
>>
>>7687962
its open at both ends.
>>
>>7687970
No shit. Not him, but you're retarded.

I could not help but notice your gif was not optimized anon.
I have optimized your gif.
Your gif is now optimized.

Basically if there's an opening air'll pass through unhindered. If it's closed off then the air can't move through steel, it's blocked from moving faster than the steel itself by the very fact that it has to move the steel in order to descend farther down into the tube. It can't break through steel, but it will be faster than the speed of the rotation.

Rule of thumb: Output's always lesser than its input.

Oh well thats a damn shame.

can someone ban this autist?

If the screw is attached to a motor and the air to pressure pump then you could get the air to travel faster up the tube.

This is not what you intend on building though is it.?
>>
>>7687986
The idea was to put the screw in a venturi causing density to change instead of velocity as area changes because the screw was supposed to be keeping velocity constant. i.e dynamic compressor.
>>
>>7687991
Why?
>>
>>7688001
Why not? The more compressors the merrier.
>>
>>7687940
Depends on the angle of the screw.
A steeply inclined screw will have a connected opening running right the way through the screw (assuming it's carrying liquid).

A shallow incline will have isolated pockets at every turn.

It's basic trig to work out at what angle an opening begins to form, as well as the minimum area of the cross-section.
>>
>>7689223
Forgot to mention that the angle also depends on the diameter of the centerpost. For example, with no center post the air will be free to flow at any incline greater than 0.
