what is the science behind humans believing in gorked shite like astrology?
>>
The body wants to minimize effort at all times.
So people will be stupid on purpose so they don't have to think about complex topics. Astrology and Religion, Spirituality explain things in a simple context. It's just how normies are.

It's called psychology and it follows in their footsteps.

Q: What is the nature of the human capacity for belief?
A: Automatic pattern recognition software run amok.

The average person is imbued, through typical life experience, with a basic sense for how much evidence they need in order to draw a correct conclusion about whatever they encounter. This sense is usually sufficient for everyday things in life, like whether or not you can pay off a loan or whether it's safe to cross an intersection, but not sufficient for more complex determinations. Education is one way to refine this sense, but it isn't the education (acquisition of knowledge) itself which accomplishes this, it is through the process of intellectually challenging oneself. The process of making great effort to understand something, finally believing that you understand it and feeling good about it, then realizing that you were actually deeply wrong about it, is a transformative experience when it happens over and over again over the course of learning something very difficult to understand. After experiencing this over and over again, the person may come to the uncomfortable realization that they are frequently wrong even when they confidently believe that they have enough evidence to draw conclusions, and can't help but wonder what other beliefs they confidently hold which may also be wrong. This is what it feels like to have your internal "bar" raised for evidence, so to speak.

The point is that any experience which is both intellectually challenging with clear right and wrong answers and forces the person to face the truth (cognitive dissonance is difficult/impossible to creep in) is potentially transformative in this sense, and teaches the person to be more skeptical. This could be any subject really. The human brain is really smart, though, so truly challenging the brain is not easy to do, especially for someone who is naturally very smart. Remember, you've got to be wrong a lot in order to experience this. This leads to the counter-intuitive conclusion that naturally smarter people are actually more likely to believe "gorked shite".

Think about it like this OP

Back in the day
People had way to much time on their hands
Now consider the vast array of time wasting that went on
Some of this time wasting involve rudimentary but much more well versed and traversed psychology, unlike today's petty systems of labeling
This at some point got chained up with the census guys
A pattern emerged
And well...
Shazam!
Astrology
>And the stories just being moral histories to guide those under such signs

Glad I could be of assistance

Pattern recognition.

If dubs, astrology is astronomy

People would rather the stars align than claim responsibility for their own actions. It's in a higher power's hands.

Fuck no.
