Why are we still at blue ray? why haven't we optimized the potential elite violate rays yet to create disk that can hold 100+GBs? Or is society just slowly moving away from disk all together so things are now all digital since internet access is pretty abundant?

whats the potential of violate rays?
>>

shorter wave length = more info on disc
r-right?
>>
>Or is society just slowly moving away from disk all together so things are now all digital since internet access is pretty abundant?

This. Why would I want to buy a disk when I can watch something and then move on with my life instead of having it for a long time on a shelf? Books aren't a good comparison since they have great re-readability potential while you can only watch your favorite a movie for a few times a month maybe.
>>
>>7669436
with that logic why don't we just skip light rays altogether and use x-ray readers
>>
>>7669449
is that even possible?

Stop. This board is for serious business only.

ya but wouldnt that mean using more space on your computer where a disc can be read and the only thing your using is RAM

Because developing a new technology is expensive as fuck and it's really not needed at this point, nobody I knows even buys physical shit anymore everything is online. Developing a new technology would be too risky.

Streaming isn't much differrent in this respect from browsing the web. After you watch a movie you can remove the cache/temp files and move on.

that data still has to be stored somewhere even if it's being accessed over the internet.

We're not...

I'd like a 4k version of Ghost in the Shell, made from decent masters.

They have masters without overscan that were used for tv broadcasts. No idea why this was kept for the BDs, it's not padding for aspect ratio.

stay clear of those violate rays m8

Solid state storage is getting pretty good. The problem with using shorter wavelengths is that they tend to be ionizing. New efforts in optical data storage jave focused on storing information in 3d and using multiple wavelengths of light.

Of course streaming killed the video store/rentals, so there is less demand for optical data storage

slowly? haven't used optical media for 5 years.
it all over for OM

"Blu-Ray" lasers are already in the violet regime. They're only called blu-ray because it sounds better than violet ray commercially. Easy to pronounce and remember sells.
>>
Why not just use gamma rays?
