the "I'm a former princess of whatevershitland and have 20m $$$, pls help and you get some of it" emails, were one of te first internet memes. mostly everyone back then got those spam mails and they all followed the same pattern, just chaning some details. a meme is something people know and recognize even in variations. so this is problably one of the earlier memes that got to a wider audience. the cake is a lie is one of the lesser known, but also an old one.
