i don't feel prepared for the mines. ofc i die in sokoban a ton of times. the mines are relatively harder than the main dungeon but it's usually only two levels of it until minetown...
what's the general strategy?

well in dungeon crawl: stone soup, you would just mash the direction key until you clear the floor-- that may be a viable tactic here but i am not a tactician by any means

if you are not a gnome or a dwarf u will get attacked and die at a low level, and also sometimes very high level monsters appear in mine town so they will kill u too if u aren't prepared already.

six turns, nice! i know other silly deaths are possible like dying from kicking a wall or if u want to die on turn 1 having autopickup on in ur options and getting blasted by an artifact by starting on the same square as it (astronomically low chance of that ever happening lol)
ok my issue tho is if i run straight to sokoban i'll tend to die there, simply bcuz i'll have enough xplvl for it to start throwing stuff at me i can't survive. some of my best games i back track a lot, a straight run to minetown is a dangerous idea also. probably i just need to learn to play more cautiously and avoid retarded game ending mistakes. i read about stuff on the spoilers on nethack wiki but it sometimes doesn't sink in until i've experienced it. once i carelessly put a wand of cancellation into a bag of holding just moving stuff around... holy crap! never doing that again... or missing the you feel feverish message and destroying ur wished for blessed greased gray dragon scale mail when u turn into a werewolf, ugh!

i had a good game going recently (started with spellbook of identify) and i died choking on a cave spider corpse (i had cast stone to flesh earlier and eaten the huge chunk of meat). i usually expect the "you have a hard time getting all this down" prompt but apparently eating while satiated can occasionally kill u in one turn with no warning...
there is a cool thing u can do with nethack
copy all the bones files into another folder and when you have a ton of them put them back into the nethack folder then every level will have a previous death on it lol.
