I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Anime, is in fact, Animation, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Animated Cartoons. Anime is not an cartoon unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning animation system made useful by the otaku corelibs, mangakas utilities and asian system components comprising a full moe as defined by DESU

Many anime otakus watch a pirated version of the Umaru anime every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of animation which is widely used today is often called anime, and many of its otakus are not aware that it is basically the animation system, developed by the Disney Project.

There really is anime and these people are watching it, but it is just a part of the system they use. animation is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the otaku's money to the other animators that you watch. The kernel is an essential part of an animation system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete animation system. anime is normally used in combination with the animation system: the whole system is basically cartoons with animation added, or anime. All the so-called anime distributions are really distributions of Disney Cartoons!
