Little boys don't understand how the world works yet, so they are still full of hope and energy. They think "one day I will achieve great things" because everyone has been telling them that, but it's a lie just like Santa Claus. The world doesn't make any progress. It's all just showing off to impress females so they let you impregnate them and create more copies of your genes. Realizing this doesn't change the facts, it just works against you and you will leave the gene pool and nothing has any purpose anymore. Little boys don't understand yet that they are driven by the desire to reproduce. They don't have that level of introspection yet, so they still believe their lives serve a higher purpose that transcends humanity. This ignorance is what makes them the little explorers that they are.
