I have spent a grand total of three and a half minutes researching this phenomenon, so allow me to enlighten you, young grasshopper.
The first known instance of this kopipe was in reply to a post simply stating "WALUIGI" in a fortune-checking thread. That was in June of 2015. The kopipe lay dormant until, in September of 2015, it began spreading like wildfire, but always in reply to a Mario-themed thread.
It is my theory that the September poster had been keeping this pasta in his (or her) back pocket for some months, until he (or she) decided that, really, it fit as a reply to anything Mario-related. Mario shows up surprisingly frequently on [s4s], so this poster found themselves reposting the text more often than they'd predicted - often enough to reach the Chandrakekhar Mass, and become a meme.
