I just realised it's been a month since the first Ai thread. Let's see if we can keep it going for one more.
Looking at someone like Ai makes me wonder... why do all these "Miss A" "Miss B" "Miss Hurr" "Miss Durr" -contests even exist? The candidates are always some random relatively pretty girls, but it's never anything spectacular, like Ai here. And worst of all, beauty pageants take into consideration factors other than beauty, which makes no sense.

But in all seriousness, I am under the impression that most beauty pageants conform to the standard of beauty found in the fashion industry, i.e. tall, skinny elf-like women without significant curves. Besides, Ai's popularity speaks for itself. She doesn't need any pageant to confirm that she's a rare kind of beauty.
And regarding your remark about how pageants consider factors other than beauty; I think they try to make the women's personality count, though it becomes very fake when presented the way it is during pageants imo.
